In June 1948, three years after the end of Second World War, Germany became yet again a conflict zone, as the Soviets shut down all land routes into West Berlin. The Berlin Blockade, as it is now known, was resolved by supplying the city with food and raw materials through an impressive airlift. The Berlin Blockade was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War period.
